Dutch Development Program

The Dutch Development Program (DDP) is the foundation of player development at St. John’s Football Club and a key differentiator in the U.S. youth football landscape.

DDP combines a structured, development-first methodology with real exposure to professional football environments. Players are trained using Dutch football principles that emphasize technical quality, tactical understanding, decision-making, and game intelligence, while also being immersed in settings where professional standards are the norm.

Through established relationships with European academies and UEFA coaches, DDP provides players with opportunities to train alongside professional academy environments, compete in high-level international settings, and be evaluated in contexts where professional scouts and club decision-makers are present. These experiences are not staged showcases — they are integrated into real football ecosystems.

Exposure within DDP is earned, contextual, and appropriate. Players are placed in environments that match their development stage and readiness, ensuring experiences are meaningful rather than performative.

The Dutch Development Program is not a camp or a one-time trip. It is a long-term development framework that governs coaching methodology, training design, competition selection, and international engagement across the club.

How can my child take part in the Dutch Development Program?

St. John's Football Club exclusively offers this opportunity.  We hand pick athletes based on a number of criteria to determine who has the best chance of success.  Some may be requested by the Dutch trainers and/or clubs to be seen for the first time or multiple times.   There are a limited number of available "seats".

Do we have to be a member of St. John's Football Club?

Not necessarily.  While we always hope you choose to experience our unique brand of football, we will never let club politics stand in the way of providing opportunies to the youth in the area.

How can I register my child for this program at St. John's Football Club?

For more information about the Dutch Development Program, or SJFC in general, please email us at [email protected] and we will arrange for a chat.

How much does the Dutch Development Program cost?

Costs vary by year, depending on a number of factors, but we always strive for it to be as cost effective as possible.  Pricing will be shared with those nominated to attend.

How is travel arranged?

All travel and accommodation expenses are arranged by the family of the athlete that is nominated.  SJFC is solely responsible for coordinating the scheduled events of the week and training.

How exposure works within DDP

Exposure is not treated as a promise or entitlement. It is a byproduct of preparation, performance, and placement.

Within the Dutch Development Program, exposure occurs through:

Training and competition alongside professional academy environments

Participation in established European football settings

Evaluation by coaches and scouts operating within their normal professional processes

This approach ensures players are seen as footballers, not as prospects in a showcase.
